The Beauty of Kawasan Falls
Crystal Clear Waters
The allure of Kawasan Falls lies in its crystal-clear waters. Imagine diving into pools of vibrant blue, reminiscent of a refreshing Gatorade drink. The falls’ multi-tier layout features three levels, each adorned with natural pools where visitors can swim and unwind. As you immerse yourself in the cool waters, surrounded by steep limestone canyon walls, you’ll understand why Kawasan is a photographer’s dream.
Surrounding Lush Greenery
Beyond the falls, the lush greenery of the Mantalongon Mountain Range envelops Kawasan. The dense jungle canopy provides a serene backdrop, inviting you to explore the hidden corners of this pristine paradise. Whether you’re picnicking by the water’s edge or hiking along the trails, the natural beauty of Kawasan captivates at every turn.
History and Significance
Kawasan Falls holds cultural and ecological significance for the locals. Its waters originate from the Kandayvic Spring, flowing into the Matutinao River and eventually reaching the Tañon Strait. For generations, it has been a gathering place, a source of sustenance, and a symbol of Cebu’s natural bounty. As you stand before the falls, consider the stories etched into its limestone walls—a testament to the timeless connection between people and nature.
Best Time to Visit Kawasan Falls
The ideal time to experience Kawasan Falls is during the dry season (from November to May). During these months, the water is crystal clear, and the weather is conducive to exploration. Be prepared for a refreshing dip, as the coolness of the pools contrasts with the tropical heat. Remember to bring your camera—the vibrant hues and lush surroundings are best captured in the soft morning light.
How to Get to Kawasan Falls
- From Cebu City: Begin your journey by heading to Kawasan Falls in Badian from Cebu City. The scenic drive takes approximately 3 hours, passing through picturesque towns like Moalboal.
- Arrival in Badian: The landmark is at the Matutinao Church, specifically the Sto. Tomas De Villanueva Parish, where you can park your motorcycle or vehicle. The trail to the waterfalls is quite flat, so much so that I’d describe it as more of a walk than a hike. The walk will only take you about 15-20 minutes to get to the first level waterfall.
- Entrance Fees: Entrance fee of PHP 200 per person for 3 hours, which includes access to level 1 only, a life vest, and a local tour guide.
Whether you’re canyoneering, swimming, or simply marveling at nature’s masterpiece, Kawasan Falls promises an unforgettable escape—one that leaves you refreshed, inspired, and connected to the heart of Cebu. Plan your visit and immerse yourself in this natural wonder!
